When Reactive Generators was first contacted for this project, the initial scope was to inspect and potentially refurbish a legacy generator that had been removed from another building.
Before any major works were recommended, the team completed a full inspection and life span analysis of the existing unit. This included a detailed mechanical, electrical and overall condition report, along with a formal critical and non critical quotation.
After further review and discussion with the client, it became clear that repairing the repurposed generator was not the right long term option for the site.

Understanding the site requirements
Reactive Generators was then invited to inspect the head office and disaster response facility that needed to be repowered.
During the pre inspection, Reactive Generators engineers and electricians identified several important issues. Existing cabling systems and circuit protection were undersized for the application, and the switchboard had not been built with enough capacity to support the next stage of works, including the installation of an automatic transfer switch.
The site also had additional integration requirements, including solar interlocking and electric vehicle load management systems. To properly understand the building’s actual demand, Reactive Generators installed power analysers to monitor the load before finalising the solution.
Engineered for the building, not just the generator
Following the site investigation, Reactive Generators proposed an engineered turnkey package designed around the building’s real operating requirements.
The solution included a correctly sized automatic transfer switch, correct coordination, solar interlocking, electric vehicle load management systems and a temporary generator connection point.
Formal testing was completed using a Reactive Generators hire generator, giving the client confidence in the system before the permanent generator was supplied and landed.

After capital approval, Reactive Generators supplied and landed a 370kVA Pramac GDW370V generator with a 2000 litre fuel tank.
